Curly Hair Hacks to Stop You Going Round the Twist

When it comes to hair care, people with curly hair often feel like they’re at a disadvantage. It can be difficult to find products that work well with curls, and it can be even harder to figure out how to style them.

Gone are the days of trying to straighten your mane only for it to end up frizzy and damaged. Then trying to embrace your curls only for them to end up frizzy and undefined, or weighted down and dirty. If you’re struggling with your curly hair, don’t worry – we’re here to help!

The Right Products for Curly Hair

One of the most important things you can do for your curly hair is to use the right products. When shopping for hair care products, look for ones that are labeled “for curly hair.” These products will be specifically designed to hydrate and tame curls.

Avoid products that contain alcohol, as these can dry out your hair and make your curls frizzy. Instead, opt for products that contain natural oils like coconut oil or jojoba oil. These will help to keep your hair healthy and hydrated.

Clarify Your Curls

You can get special shampoos that you use periodically in place of your regular shampoo that help to remove buildup. This is from all the products used over a fortnight or month, as well as your natural oils since people with curly hair don't need to wash their hair as often.

You can also just use apple cider vinegar (ACV) for a natural and budget-friendly option! Shampoo as normal, then mix 1/4 cup ACV with 1 3/4 cups warm water and pour over your scalp. Massage thoroughly to work it into your scalp and roots. Then rinse with warm water before continuing onto your conditioner.

Moisturise Your Mane

Curly hair is prone to dryness, frizz and damage. So in addition to your regular conditioner and your leave-in conditioner when styling, you will also need to add a deep conditioning hair mask to your routine.

Experiment with what works for you, but depending on your hair just weekly or fortnightly should be plenty. This is generally a mask that you use in the shower, leave in and wash out later. Some people only have time to leave it in while they complete their shower, while others will stop their shower and come back later to finish it off - or even just finish their hair routine in the sink for convenience.

How to Style Curly Hair

Once you have the right products, it’s time to start thinking about how you want to style your hair. There are a few different ways to style curly hair, so it’s important to experiment until you find a method that works best for you.

One popular way to style curly hair is by using a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer. This helps to dry your hair without making your curls too frizzy.

You can also try scrunching your damp hair with a towel before scrunching in a curl-enhancing product. Then, allow your hair to air dry or use a diffuser on a low setting.

Another option is to wet your hair and apply a leave-in conditioner or curl cream. Then, twist and pin small sections of wet hair and allow them to air dry overnight. In the morning, untwist your locks and enjoy your beautiful curls!

Caring for curly hair can be tricky, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming! By using the right products and taking the time to style your curls in a way that works best for you, you can achieve gorgeous, healthy-looking curls that you love.
