How to Dye Your Hair Bright, Funky Colours Without Ruining it: A Guide

Updated: Feb 17, 2022

So you want to dye your hair a bright, funky colour but you're not sure how to do it without ruining it?

You've come to the right place! In this guide, we will walk you through the process of dyeing your hair vibrant colours without damaging it.

We'll talk about what colours work best on pre-lightened hair, how to prepare your hair for dyeing, and the steps you need to take to get the best results. Let's get started!

The first step is to find a colour you like. You can do this by looking at pictures online or in magazines, going into your local hair salon, and asking friends what they recommend. Once you've found something that interests you it's time for the next step!

If this is your first time dyeing your hair a bright colour, then you need to pre-lighten it to a very light blonde.

This is because most vivid colours need to be applied to light hair in order to achieve the best result. If your hair isn't light enough, then the colour will not be true to your desired shade or as vibrant.

There are a few things you need to do to pre-lighten your hair:

Firstly, go slow. This means that you should only lighten gently, and take your time in doing so. Not overdoing it in the process.

Secondly, make sure to use a bond rebuilder like Olaplex or Innolux in with the bleach to repair and strengthen the internal structure of the hair shaft to maintain it's integrity.

And finally, use a heat protector like our "Styling Primer" when applying heat with your hairdryer or styling irons after bleaching so the vibrancy of your Vivid colour doesn't fade as quickly.

Once you have pre-lightened your hair, you're ready to dye it any of the bright, fun colours that you desire...

... Just make sure you get this done professionally as you don't want to end up with any patchy unevenness to your underlying lightness.

When it comes time for a change, and you decide that your bright hair colour needs to go, there's no need to panic!

These colours are direct dyes and will fade out as you shampoo over the coming weeks.. If however they do not fade enough or fast enough, then your hairdresser can assist you in changing your colour.

Vivid colours are a great way to stand out and express yourself, but remember to always take care of your hair.

Make sure you're using a good quality shampoo and conditioner that are suited for coloured hair, and try to avoid using too much heat on your locks.

By following these simple tips, you can keep your bright hair looking amazing for months (or even years) to come!
